zoo day

Friday, August 5th, 2011

We couldn’t leave Barcelona without visiting the zoo so a few friends and I loaded up the kids and went for a visit our last week in town. I was not sure if A would even understand the concept or care but she really did seem to love it. We decided to visit the larger animals first so the kids would be more likely able to actually see them. A seemed to love it. I would push her up to the fence and point out the animal and she would get so excited bouncing up and down and leaning as far over the fence as she possibly could. The first few animals she would get upset when I pried her from the fence to visit the next animal but I guess she eventually realized we were going to see a lot of animals so she calmed down a bit. We really had a blast and I cant wait to visit more zoo’s.

Trying to get a better glimpse of the elephants.

She did eventually wear out and took a short nap.

We got to pet the goats. A was mostly scared of them.

But little Hugo was not at all and kept walking around trying to hug them.

All the kids together. We will miss our baby friends (and their Mamma’s).

We took a break to play in the zoo park.

They kept wanting to slide down on their bellies.

Mamma’s and babies.

beach day

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

We finally made it to Oklahoma! We had some many problems with British Airways and ended up leaving a day late (two mornings waking up at 4am, ugh). The flight was long and A thought three 20 minute naps during 22 hours of travel was plenty. We are arrived last night and she was utterly exhausted (as were we) and luckily went straight to bed. Now we are all just trying to adjust to the new time zone and repacking for our flight that leaves tomorrow for Seattle. Its nice to be on familiar soil:)

And now I leave you with our last trip to the beach:

We hit the beach one last time before leaving Barcelona. And of course A had a blast playing in the sand and letting the waves crash against her little legs. It was a beautiful day and was great to enjoy the things we love about the city one last time.

I started burrying A’s legs in the sand and she loved it so then we started burying more and more of her until she was all burried except her head and she thought it was the greatest. She kept sitting down and putting sand on top of her trying to get us to bury her over and over. She is a cute one. Here are some photos and a fun video:

She kept smashing the little castles we built like so…

Of course she is eating sand at the beginning of the video…

last day

Monday, July 25th, 2011

Our bags are packed and we are ready to go. Its been a whirlwind last few days getting things all ready to go as well as taking advantage of our last days here. We will miss you, Barcelona.

I leave you with a short video of Lluc and A playing together while we are packing up and rearranging furniture. They are just getting to the age where they can actually play. Its fun to watch.

Soon I will catch up with some posts of our final adventures in Barcelona.

master

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Its official. Josh is now a Master in Design and Art Direction. He did it. And I am so proud of him. His graduation was yesterday and was actually rather hilarious. Josh had pretty much no information until the morning of and then it was wrong information. It was supposed to start at 6:30pm and we did not figure out the correct location till around 6pm. But dont worry, it did not start until around 8pm. And then after some group presentations they took a break around 9:30pm for people to wander around, grab some food, etc. I had to leave at this point to get our child to bed but Josh says that it eventually resumed although only about half the people showed back up and then ended around 11:30-midnight. There was no walking across a stage but there was a lot of standing around drinking beer (while professors were on stage talking). Luckily, the relaxed environment allowed for A to wander around making friends and picking up rocks. Nevertheless it was a fun evening celebrating all of Josh’s hard work. Way to go babe!

And the exciting part, if you have not heard, is that he landed a sweet job with Evernote. Which means we are moving to Silicone Valley/San Francisco Bay area. His office is in Mountain View, CA although we still are not sure exactly where in the area we will live. We leave here on July 26th and he starts on August 15th. A year has passed so quickly and we really are sad to leave this beautiful city and the life we have here although we are excited for the new adventure and to be closer to friends and family.

The graduation was in this beautiful courtyard.

Which is part of an old convent.

The graduate. Apparently that is not the actual diploma. The real one comes in the mail and can take up to two years to arrive as its waiting to be signed by the King of Spain. (I kinda feel sorry for that King having to hand sign so many diplomas)

A seems to have a serious baby crush on Josh’s classmate Barbon. Perhaps it is because he allows her to yank on his beard or maybe because he patiently holds her hand while she drags him walking all over the area. Either way im thankful for a few minutes of not chasing her or being the one holding her hand as she is constantly exploring and on the move.
I kinda thought it was amazing that this guy in the back (in the pink pants) who was himself graduating was listening to headphones and smoking during the ceremony.

Always finding new ways to entertain the kid.

happy birthday

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

Josh had a birthday this week. It was on Thursday (apparently I was busy blogging about quilts on that day) and we celebrated with an American bbq with all his friends from school. And nothing says America more than Budweiser, Mickey Mouse burgers, doritos, and birthday cake (we could have just gone to McDonalds:). It was a good day celebrating another year in the life of the best guy around. I am so lucky to be his wife and walk through life by his side. Happy Birthday baby!!!

And birthday cake!

first birthday party

Monday, July 4th, 2011

And now for the actual photos of the party. It was held on the rooftop terrace of our apartment building. We knew we would need to have the party outside in order to have space for all the people. So we decided to utilize the incredible view of our terrace, threw up some shade and hoped people would not sweat too much (i dont think we accomplished that last one). It was a blast to plan and a blast the day of. Wish you all could have been there. Happy First Birthday to our our sweet little girl.

The setup.

The view.

Decorations.

Opening presents.

All the momma’s and babies.

Samuel, Lluc, Mariona, and us!

With the birthday girl. I promise she was having fun.

Time for cake.

She was not too sure about it.

And of course it made it onto her shirt before her mouth.

Once she realized how yummy it was she gobbled it up.

Lluc couldn’t be bothered picking his up so he just face planted into it.

party decorations

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011

We are back from our trip and had a wonderful time. I’ll write more on that later but for now I still have so much to share about A’s party and birthday. I have a one year old. Crazy!!

The party really turned out great. Mariona and I planned it together for A and LLuc. Since we normally get together once a week for craft time we spent the last two months using that time to make things for the party. We decided on a woodland forest theme centering around little animals and mushrooms. Then we started gathering inspiration and got busy.

Here are the things we made:

We made a bunch of felt animals as the cupcake toppers. They also made an appearance in the invitation video. These are half of them.

The felt and fabric mushrooms we used as decoration with wood logs and moss.

These adorable mushroom cookies that Mariona made we gave to all the guests.

Josh made these labels that we put on the water bottles as well as bubbles to give the kids.

On the water bottles.

And on the bubbles. The kid favors.

We attempted to make mushroom cake pops but they turned out to be a disaster. Oh well.

Above is a glimpse of the bunting banner, paper flowers, and circle paper garland we made.

We had a little area set up with pictures of them throughout their first year of life. I made the photo garland and on each months photo added something exciting that A did that month.

And finally we each made a birthday banner. Here is the English version that I made.

Now, I get to upload lots of party photos and share them. Stay tuned!

recap

Monday, June 27th, 2011

A’s birthday party was a blast. It was a teeny bit hectic getting everything setup and more than a teeny bit hot outside but overall everything turned out fantastic. I think that her and Lluc enjoyed themselves and we all had a fun time celebrating their year of life. And us all surviving:) Here are just a few pics to hold you over until I am able to post more.

And now we get to celebrate A’s actual birthday tomorrow. Unfortunately she will be spending 6 hours in the car on her birthday but that also means she will be spending part of her birthday in France. We are headed to Beynac/Sarlat France tomorrow and are so excited to spend the rest of the week relaxing and hanging out with Papa and Lita and Aunt Mariana.

Not a bad place to spend your first birthday huh? I cant wait to get there!

birthday suit

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

We are having a party for A on Sunday to celebrate her year of life (her actual birthday is on Tuesday). Mariona (Lluc’s mom) and I have been working hard for the past month and a half on all the decorations, details, etc. Its been a lot of fun to plan and prepare for. Here is the little outfit I made for A to wear for the big event. I cant wait to see it on her and I am crossing my fingers that she will keep the headband on for more than 2 seconds. I have been putting it on her hoping that she will get used to it but so far its not working.

I made the shorts using this tutorial. They were SO easy. Honestly took about 45 minutes. And I love how they turned out. I cannot wait to make lots more.

I bought a basic tank at h&m and then added the owl holding the flag. I used fabric and felt.

And to go along with the theme I made a flower garland headband. I made a variety of different flowers out of felt and then used felt balls for the center. Its pretty adorable on.

I cant wait to share more as well as pictures from the party soon!
