happy halloween

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Hope you all have a fun and candy filled day!

I was super excited to make A a costume this year. She has been really into birds lately. She can spot them high in the sky and excitedly points at them until I affirm that yes, that is a bird.  This coupled with some Pinterest inspiration led to…….A’s bird costume. It turned out so cute and A makes the most adorable little bird.

I made a basic muslin dress form, finishing off the neck and armholes with bias tape I made from the yellow gingam fabric. I added a snap on one of the shoulder straps for on/off ease. I cut out a ton of feathers from lots of different fabrics and covered the dress form in them.

For the wings I also made a muslin form lined with the yellow gingam for the inside of the wing. Then I covered the outside of the wing with the same fabric feathers. I attached a little elastic loop to the edge of the wings so they would stay attached to A’s wrist. Then I just stitched the wings onto the back of the feather covered dress.

I also made a head band out of tool and feathers and some bird feet out of felt (I stitched some elastic onto them so they would stay around her feet).

And ta-da…..

A little birdie. (with a yellow birdie beak:)

I put together a cat costume since I am always chasing and trying to catch the little birdie:)

It was tough getting good shots of her in the costume.

We took her to a church Halloween festival we found online. She thought it was so great.

There were lots of fun games.

And her first time in a bounce house. Of course she loved it.

Now we just have to figure out what to do tomorrow……

P.S. The alternate title of this post should be I GOT A NEW SEWING MACHINE. And I am so excited about it. I can finally start sewing things (like adorable bird costumes) and posting more on my blog than a bajillion pics of A.

weekend adventures

Friday, October 28th, 2011

We love the weekend. In Barcelona, Josh was in and out a lot during the week so we got to spend time together and go on adventures rather often. Now that he is working a real job, we relish our time together on the weekend and enjoy going on adventures exploring our new area. Last week we drove about 45min (1.5 hours with cali traffic) to a farm pumpkin patch and then went to Half Moon Bay, a little town on the ocean. We decided to take some backroads home, got a little lost in the forest, drove on some of the windiest roads of our life, and finally made it home 2.5 hours later. We probably wont be taking that route again but it was fun exploring. And of course its nice to have the help with Adelaide too. She loves her Da.

As soon as we got to the pumpkin patch she immediately started trying to pick up all the pumpkins.

Good thing the small ones were at the front.

The pumpkins got bigger but she still tried to pick them up.

Josh helping out.

When she realized she was not going to be able to pick the big ones up she decided to just sit on them instead.

She was not too excited to be posing for a picture with all those pumpkins waiting to be picked up.

Half Moon Bay.

It was so beautiful. And there is a campground right on the edge of that cliff. Its now on our list. Come and join us?

Shadows.

Adelaide loves the beach.

Sweet girl.

Cant wait to go back!

kid smile

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Adelaide has now perfected the kid smile. Yes, it seems early, but she is good at it. We have years of great photos ahead of ourselves. If you ask Adelaide to smile she will turn and look at you with the cheesiest grin smeared across her face.

This was the first time she busted it out and amazingly Cindy caught it on film.

Here are a few I managed to take. Its always a bit difficult because as she is smiling she is running around, climbing on top of something, etc. They are all a bit blurry but hopefully you can gather the amazingness of the kid smile:)

Love those dimples:)

tid bits

Monday, October 24th, 2011

I am not very good about writing things down. I guess this is my place for that. Since I have not been taking monthly pictures of Adelaide or writing the monthly posts I feel like there are so many little details about her growing up that I will forget. So I thought I would jot down a few things to remember

-Adelaide’s current words are:

Mom
Da (dad)
Papa
Do (dog)
bi (bird)
ba (ball)
Hola (this is usually used when she is talking on her play phone)
Hi (and waves)
Bye (and waves)
pa (pacifier)
up
ot (hot)
no (usually more like nonononono)

-She makes funny sounds like:

lalalala (for love and lita)
blahblahblah

-She has 8 teeth and is getting more.

-She can give high fives.

-She likes to find her own as well as other peoples belly buttons.

-She responds to the following questions:

Adelaide, what does a dog say? rurururu
Adelaide, que dice el perrito? wowowow

-She is giving kisses again. (although her kisses are more of a head butt)

-She insists on blowing on all food. Even things like ice cream. She really dislikes her food being much warmer than room temperature.

-She points her finger shaking it back and forth and says nonononono at anything she is no supposed to get into. She is learning:)

-She puts her hands up as if asking why? in a number of different situations.

-When we are all snuggling in bed her favorite thing to do is sit on Josh or my stomach or bladder and bounce up and down like she is riding a horse.

-She loves carrying a purse around. She is pretty much into mimicking anything that I do.

-She loves playing with her hand and finger puppets and will walk our of her room with one on her hand or finger saying dat dat dat. (i’ve been trying to get a video)

-Every time she takes a drink of water, she says ahhhhhhh.

-She loves trying my shoes on and walking around the house in them. (and subsequently gets really upset when they dont stay on her feet.)

-She often pats me on the back when I am holding her. Usually when she is sleepy or giving me a hug or I like to pretend she is telling me, good job.

She’s the best:) And growing up way too fast.

los angeles

Saturday, October 22nd, 2011

We went to LA last weekend to visit Mariana and attend Carolyn’s families Oktoberfest. It was so much fun and actually rather relaxing. I really enjoyed the company (considering I dont normally have much adult human interaction. i really need to find some friends around here  :).

Adelaide made herself right at home.

Getting to know Robot.

Getting her hipster on.

Oktoberfest just gearing up. In Carolyn’s parents beautiful backyard.

The hosts and the brewers. There were 11 different types of beer. Amazing!

Livin’ it up. Baby was sleeping in the house.

I won a growler.

So down the street there was some serious music bumpin so we decided to crash the party. It was insane. A big castle house on a huge piece of property. And all kinds stuff to do, bounce house, buffet, open bars, craft area, photo booth, dance floor, craps tables, etc. It was a costume party and the theme was stempunk. Some really cool costumes.

We found some fake mustaches.

And big spiders.

Brunch the next day. Snugglin with Aunt Mariana.

And Griffin entertaining Adelaide with a phone, of course.

Next day we walked around downtown LA.

And stopped in Bottega Louie for some beautiful (and tasty) macaroons. I love that place.

Then hit up the meadow. A beautiful day!

Before heading home Adelaide got in some quality time with Robot.

They played fetch although she was not very good at it, throwing the toy about 2 inches from Robots face.

The flight was empty on our way home so Adelaide got her very own seat. She stayed busy eating pretzels and browsing the Skymall catalogue.

And she got her very own drink. I had no idea they had lids and straws for those little cups (well at least Southwest does). How great!

play time

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

We have had an eventful few weeks with visitors, Adelaide getting sick, now me sick, and us about to head to LA for the weekend. Hopefully it will help keep my mind of the terrible pain in my throat (hand, foot, and mouth disease is not very much fun. and yes weird. i have no idea how we got it). Im not going to let it get me down cause we are super excited to hang out with Aunt Mariana.

In the midst of everything little A never stops playing. She is finding new things to get into all the time. Right now she is really into clothes. The other day she played in her room for at least 40 minutes quietly by herself (a huge record). I couldn’t believe it and kept checking on her. And the entire time she was organizing her clothes. Making piles, folding them, picking them up, etc. She is a funny little girl:)

She insisted I help her put on 8 shirts.

And spent a few hours wearing them around.

She discovered the dryer. I cant believe how tiny she looks in there.

She is ready to go on vacation.

And was insistant on closing herself in.

And apparently got tired of her clothes so decided to try on all mine.

Ha.

more visitors

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

My friend Joy and her daughter Naomi came out for a visit. I dont know what Adelaide is going to do without having a little friend around to play with. They were here for a few days and we mostly just hung around town, although we did spend a day in Monterey. Its been nice having company during these early months in a new place. I did not take many pictures, but here are a few:

In Monterey.

Adelaide thought it was really great to feed Naomi all the time. And luckily Naomi didn’t mind having food shoved in her mouth.

Its nice having a backyard. Although Adelaide spends way more time in the dirt than in the grass.

Sharing rocks (or probably not sharing rocks.)

Adelaide also thought it was great to try and bathe Naomi, aka dump water on her head.

They had a lot of fun splashing together.

Thanks for coming out for a visit guys. We miss you!!

visitors

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

We have been having a fun time hanging out with visitors. My parents and Austin were out for a visit and then the Mathison’s came and hung out for a bit. Adelaide loved hanging out with their little guys. She mimicked everything they did including running into walls and falling onto the ground.

I took a few pics (tomorrow I’ll post the good pictures MacKensie took):

First we hit up the beach in Santa Cruz.

Of course A tried to eat the sand.

Then we hit up the boardwalk and A had her first experience on a ride. Parker did a good job keeping her from trying to jump in the water.

Then we hit up a giant playground in Monterey.

And stuck around for a beautiful sunset.

We got home with just enough time for some cuddling.

And were up bright and early ready to head to San Francisco.

We checked out the Bluegrass Festival in the Golden Gate Park. It was packed.

And of course we swung by the Golden Gate Bridge.

Thats a good weekend.

pumpkin

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Its true. Im slightly obsessed with pumpkin. I know everyone is this time of year. If only it was more accesible all year long. Thanks to Pinterest, I have come across a number of very delicious looking pumpkin recipes. So I decided to start making them.

First I made these Pumpkin Spice Magic Bars (minus the caramel on top). They were good but not the most amazing thing I have every eaten.

Then I made these Self Frosting Pumpkin Nutella muffins. I mean how can you go wrong with pumpkin and Nutella. Although mine did not turn out super great. The Nutella sunk and caved in on most of them.

Then I made these Pumpkin Cinnamon Streusel Pancakes and they were amazing. The big winner so far.

I cant wait to try more pumpkin recipes like this one or this one. Fall is a great time of year.

P.S. In case you are wondering. I also found the most delicious chocolate ever. Like really. I cant stop eating it.

You should go buy some right now. They will change your life.

Im done now.
