A’s birthday party was a blast. It was a teeny bit hectic getting everything setup and more than a teeny bit hot outside but overall everything turned out fantastic. I think that her and Lluc enjoyed themselves and we all had a fun time celebrating their year of life. And us all surviving:) Here are just a few pics to hold you over until I am able to post more.
And now we get to celebrate A’s actual birthday tomorrow. Unfortunately she will be spending 6 hours in the car on her birthday but that also means she will be spending part of her birthday in France. We are headed to Beynac/Sarlat France tomorrow and are so excited to spend the rest of the week relaxing and hanging out with Papa and Lita and Aunt Mariana.
Not a bad place to spend your first birthday huh? I cant wait to get there!

We are having a party for A on Sunday to celebrate her year of life (her actual birthday is on Tuesday). Mariona (Lluc’s mom) and I have been working hard for the past month and a half on all the decorations, details, etc. Its been a lot of fun to plan and prepare for. Here is the little outfit I made for A to wear for the big event. I cant wait to see it on her and I am crossing my fingers that she will keep the headband on for more than 2 seconds. I have been putting it on her hoping that she will get used to it but so far its not working.
I made the shorts using this tutorial. They were SO easy. Honestly took about 45 minutes. And I love how they turned out. I cannot wait to make lots more.
I bought a basic tank at h&m and then added the owl holding the flag. I used fabric and felt.
And to go along with the theme I made a flower garland headband. I made a variety of different flowers out of felt and then used felt balls for the center. Its pretty adorable on.
I cant wait to share more as well as pictures from the party soon!

After a bajillion stitches, I have made some significant progress on the quilt. And I really am loving it. It is a bit crazy with so many colors and different fabrics but I think its just perfect and coming together so well. I still have a bit more to do before the front is done. Then the real work begins. Oh my. What do you think so far??

Recently a friend of mine asked if I would make a sleep sac and a dress for her daughter. Its not very often that I get special orders so I was very excited. I copied the sleep sac I had already made. And the dress I basically made up. She wanted a specific vintage type dress, similar to ones we wore when we were little. I used this skirt pattern and then improvised from there. It was a fun challenge and turned out so cute.
The sleep sac:
And the little dress. (I also made a diaper cover using this tutorial and of course a headband to match:)
And here is A posing:
Of course she immediately took the headband off. Sad.

In order to get things done around here, there is often a cost involved. When A is playing quietly it often means she is getting into trouble. But it also means I have a couple free minutes. So sometimes cleaning one mess means im just about to have to clean another.
The other day I tried (for the first time in a very long time) to take a shower while A was awake. I left her in the living room playing but knew she would quickly make her way into the bathroom where I was. I closed the toilet seat (as she has been known to throw in rolls of toilet paper) and put everything dangerous out of reach. It turned out better than I imagined. It only cost one roll of toilet paper and half a box of tampons (I did not consider things getting thrown into the tub where I was showering). Lesson learned.
Later I tried to get some dishes done while A was busy playing. That turned into costing one newspaper, half a roll of parchment paper, and half a pack of napkins.
Even later while A was “playing” in her room I figured I would quickly hang up the clothes before she came crawling out trying to get into the left over tile on the balcony. That one cost an entire pack of wipes. Strewn ALL over her bedroom floor. This would actually happen on an hourly basis if I was not EXTREMELY vigilant about keeping the wipes out of reach. She just loves pulling them out one by one and throwing them around.
A day in my life living with little A. Full of so much joy and a lot of disasters:)

Josh was attending a conference this weekend so I decided to undertake a weekend project. I decided to get A’s stroller back in tip top shape. That sucker gets A LOT of use so was in need of some love. This project included:
1. Ordering a new safety bar online. (last time we flew the airline lost it and we had not gotten around to replacing it. Well now A likes sitting in the most upright setting on our stroller and I think its necessary again)
2. Purchasing a new cap for the tube stem on one of the tires and getting the tires aired up. Sounds easy but it involved me going to a hardware store, then a sporting goods store, then a bike store. A couple of those being 2 hour adventures.
3. Sewing the underneath storage basket. We like to stuff it full so it had two large tears.
4. Making a summer seat liner. We were still using the winter one and its really much too hot for that. This turned out to be one of the most difficult things I have sewn in a long time. It did not turn out exactly like I had hoped but it works!
5. Wipping everything down and dumping out all the crumbs that had accumulated in all the crevices.
And now the stroller is like new! I think it was airing up those tires that made all the difference in the world. It almost pushes itself now! I love finishing a big project!
Here it is (minus the safety bar that is backordered):
As soon as I lay something out to take a picture, A immediately crawls over and gets in the way or grabs whatever it is. I originally put the stoller in the hall and was about to take a picture when A crawled up, into the stroller and proceeded to play with the locks. I guess she thought she needed to be in this post too:)

It was full on summer here in Barcelona and then it decided to revert back to winter/spring. Its been cold and rainy for the last week which really is no fun at all. Summer is so much better. Oh well. Hopefully the sun will come back out again soon. Most of A’s winter clothes no longer fit her. Obviously this has not been a problem since for the last while she has been wearing summer clothes. Although with the colder weather lately I have been digging through her closet looking for things for her to wear that will fit. Yesterday I was struggling (probably meaning laundry needs to be done but with the cold rainy weather it takes FOREVER for the cloths to dry so not much gets done) and I could only find a pair of tights that I could have made work but were really too small (they are size 2-4 months and the little girl is approaching one year) so I decided why not turn them into a pair of leggings (since it was really only the length that was too small). I cut off the feet and five seconds later, voila, a new outfit for the cool day. Here she is sporting her new leggings:
look at that little dimple:)
As I was deleting old pictures in my phone in order to have space to take the above photos I stumbled upon a few of A wearing the same white onsie and grey tights when she was just 5 months old. Although she is still squeezed into them now, you can see the difference in her size below. She was so tiny. And now she is growing into a little toddler:(

Recently I have been back in a cooking rut. Its hard cooking two meals a day everyday. I feel like I often run out of ideas and seem to loose the joy of preparing a delicious healthy meal. I started browsing The Pioneer Woman‘s recipes for inspiration and this week made two of her recipes that we really enjoyed. Also, they were both pretty easy which is a major bonus.
Taco Pizza and
You should give one a try. Or both.
