Licking

Monday, January 31st, 2011

I was telling my Mom the other day about a few of the things I have caught baby A licking and then couldn’t fall asleep one night so began trying to think of more. Mind you, she is full on licking these items. These are just some of the things I have caught A licking:

-the side of the airplane

-any window she gets close to

-the side of our trashcan as well as the foot pedal to open the lid

-the top fuzzy part of my slippers

-bottoms of multiple shoes

-great grandpa’s toes

-her stroller wheels (that take her ALL over the city. when I pulled her away from this one her mouth was black. gross)

-restaurant tables

-other babies faces

-the chair legs

-the ground in multiple different locations

-her own spit up that she just spit up on the floor. yes. so. gross.

-rags I just used to clean up her spit up

-the raincover on her stroller

-the chairs at church

I probably find her licking something odd or nasty several times a day. How has this child not gotten sick??

Here she is trying to eat the candle at the Christmas Eve service.

And here she is eating her pacifier clip which sometimes she enjoys more than her pacifier.

Family Pictures

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

We thought we would try and take a few family pictures while with my sister and since A had just turned 6 months old. Of course it was rather spur of the moment and we totally have lots of clashing colors on (not in a good way) and took them in my parents backyard, again. When Adelaide turns one I told Josh we are going to do it right. Take some good family pics with a little foresight and planning beforehand. I do hugely appreciate Mariana and her photo skills. If it was not for her we would have hardly any pictures. Here they are; Christmas time with the Taylors:

She looks so tiny.

Haha.

And who could resist a few of A and all those adorable faces:

Cooking

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

I have been doing alot more cooking since being in Barcelona. It can be a little tricky finding ingredients and making some of the dishes I would normally make at home but I have gotten good at know ing which recipes will be possible and how to substitute out things I can not find. I have also been attempting to make new meals as we can easily get stuck in a rut eating the same foods over and over. My goal is to make at least one new meal a week. Here are a few recipes that I have made recently that have been easy and we have really liked.

-Minestrone Soup

-White Bean Chicken Chili

-Coconut Chicken Curry

-Baked Ziti with Spinach and Tomatoes: We were not huge fans of the spinach in this one. I will probably substitute another veggie next time.

-Lemony Risotto with Asparagus and Shrimp: This was my first time making risotto and we really loved it!

If you have any great recipes I should try feel free to pass them on!

Crawling

Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

I have been trying to get some good video of A crawling but have not had much luck. Every time I get the camera out she stops and just looks at me or finds a toy and is content playing with it rather than crawling after something else. These are the best two so far. Recently she started crawling across the floor to where I am making dinner or doing dishes. She comes right up beside me and whines till I pick her up. Its rather cute but does not enable me to get much done. I guess we will just have dirty dishes for awhile:)

Here are a few links to watch her attempts. I still cant get them uploaded into my posts. I have tried everything. So sad. You will just have to click on the links to watch them. I’m posting alot so hopefully you have some time to kill:)

Here is when she was first attempting when we were in Florida at the beginning of January.

This one was about a week ago here in Barcelona. She is getting a little better.

Josh caught this one while I was napping. When she sees something she wants she can be very speedy. The end gets a little crazy as he let her attack the camera.

She is getting up on her hands and knees more and more but still prefers the army crawl. She usually ends up with black clothes.

She gets herself in precarious situations rather often. She figured out how to lower and turn her head to get under the couch but of course cant get back out.

She is always heading straight for the outlet or the trash can. Its alot of work to keep her out of trouble.

Flower Pot Photo Shoot

Friday, January 21st, 2011

While in Orlando our niece Faith took some photos of Adelaide. We stuck her in a flower pot and Faith got some great shots. I love so many of them.

How cute are those tiny sparkly TOMS she got for Christmas??

She was holding on tight to that little skirt of hers.

I guess she wanted us to back up or stop taking pictures.

All on her own. Is she not the most precious thing ever?

Holiday Trip

Sunday, January 16th, 2011

We are finally back home safe and sound. We had a wonderful time with family and friends and are now working on getting setled back into life here. Adelaide is struggling with the time change and jet lag. She has been up ALOT the last 5 nights. I am really hoping she starts adjusting soon as both Josh and I are loosing steam.

After spending a wonderful week in Oklahoma and celebrating Christmas with my family we headed to Ft. Lauderdale where we celebrated New Years and Adelaide attended her first wedding (Congrats Lacy and Cristian). The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed the company and all the exciting wedding events. After that we headed up to Orlando and spent a week with Josh’s family. Adelaide’s biggest accomplishment there was making major progress on crawling. I would say she perfected the army crawl, which was only possible with the coaching and support of Grandma. She also had a fun photo shoot with her cousin Faith (pictures will be posted soon).

From there we headed to NYC where we got to spend a lovely weekend with Godparents Andy and Lorelei. We bundled up and braved the cold and Adelaide got to play in her first snow! And Andy and Lorelei got an upclose feel for parenthood as we were all sleeping in one room so everyone was awake when baby was awake. Good thing A is so cute to make up for the early mornings. And then back on a plane to Spain. And here we are.

After leaving Oklahoma (where Mariana was the built in photographer) I realized I did a horrible job at taking pictures everywhere else. Below are a random assortment of what did get taken:

Matching slippers.

Waiting around in Anthropologie with Uncle Danny.

A delicious sushi dinner with Steve, Coral and Lacy.

The beautiful aisle runner at the wedding.

Making my way down the aisle. Aren’t those chairs so cool?

A walk around Lake Eola with Jeannine.

Waiting around at the airport.

She discovered the window. But as always just ended up licking it.

A met her first dogs at Kara’s house (of course). She was so intrigued and just watched them. Lucca (the black frenchie) took a liking to her and licked her hands and face alot and A didn’t seem to mind.

A with Julie.

All bundled up to brave the NY cold.

China Town.

Times Square.

6 Months

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

I cannot believe little baby A is already 6 months old. Half a year, wow! She has had had quite an adventurous first 6 months of life. And it seems as though she has the personality for it. She is SOOOOO full of energy and it is becoming harder and harder to contain her. She recently decided she does not like being restrained in any way so now gets upset when in the carseat and the highchair and sometimes even though stroller. Although she usually does okay in the stroller cause enough is going on around her. And she will no longer sit in your lap much.

Our most recent flight from Tulsa to Ft. Lauderdale was the hardest yet. Mostly cause she was tired and will not nap on the go because she is too distracted and apparently does not want to miss anything. She loves people. Its usually easy to keep her entertained by walking around and letting her say hi to people. This happens alot in restaurants, on the plane, etc.

Saying Hi means smiling real big at them and recently raising her arm. I really dont think she knows what she is doing but she starting raising her arm when people start talking to her and it appears that she is waving at them but I just think she is trying to touch their face. And she does just like looking at her hands and what appears to be admiring her fingernails. I am trying to teach her to lift her arms when I say Hooray. We still have some work to do cause Josh keeps confusing her by trying to get her to do the same thing when he says GOAL!

I was so excited for her to learn to sit so that I could leave her sitting and playing on her own (aka: staying in one spot) but that is not what seems to be happening. She can sit on her own but is still not that good at it and eventually topples over BUT she has decided to try and start crawling. Apparently sitting is overrated. She is really working hard at it and gets up on her hands and knees and lunges forward. And at this point is rather good at scooting backwards. All this from a teeny little girl weighing in at a mere 13.8 lbs.

She is so much fun but I am quickly realizing that I have alot of patience to learn. She is so curious and is always on the go I can barley even change her diaper. Its fun to continue to see her personality develop and I cant wait to see what the next 6 months will hold in her progress and development and all the things I will learn in the process.

Because my child does not like to be still and we didn’t have our nice camera her 6 month pictures are not the best. But luckily Aunt Mariana took some fun pictures of her and the three of us that I will post soon.

Happy 6 months precious baby girl!

No Mom, I do not want to lay on my back for pictures.

Working on sitting up.

Escaping.

She had just taken a bath so her hair actually looks normal.
